Hi!

Much random rants of mine in this mini space I signed up for from 5 years ago.

In a nutshell, I'm a 22 year old japanesekoreanindonesianmalaysian singer-songwriter residing in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Other side adrenaline pumping activities include dance, theatre, live shows, photography, fashion, make up, beauty and of course, good food.

I also think I am addicted to coffee.

Tuesday, November 4

when october came and all the youtubers I'm subscribed to started posting halloween related-videos,  it came to my realization that in all of my 22 years of living, I've never celebrated halloween.

I kid you not.

so I thought, what the heck, since I love re-creating looks and painting my face, let's do something this year. my youngest sister Deanna loves all that comes with halloween - the customary trick or treating, the candy, the ghoully decorations, the costumes, the makeup, the horror films - she even called up a few friends over to revamp her room into a 'haunted house' and the family members and I would take turns to have the 'first hand experience'. the only thing I did that contributed to the festivity at that time was buy extra candy for her friends. and maybe for myself. either way it was a win-win situation. moving along, the question of who to be comes to mind. I remember telling Zareth this when we were watching a gig in Laundry,

"there will be three categories of looks that the female species go for in halloween :
1) scary
2) a character
3) sexy - borderline slutty"

one of the few inspirations I was going to go for was black swan, maleficient, sugar skull, anime, pop art - basically those who has fascinating makeup work, I was really excited to challenge my skills. but all of those required a full costume, and a full costume costs money. lots of it. so who could I be that was already in my closet? and then it hit me. Beyonce's Flawless look! I love the song, it's about empowering women, I love her makeup, her hair, I have similar looking items to her outfit - perfect. just need to get a blonde bob wig then I'm all set.

wrong.

bought a wig from spotlight but it was more marilyn monroe than it was beyonce and since it wasn't real hair, I couldn't do much to it (heat wasn't allowed hah). I had a lot of fun with the transformation process and kiiiinda have too many pictures from this look. but don't worry I won't spam.

so much.

a closer look on the makeup. key points are on the upper and lower eyeliner, slightly arched eyebrows, long dramatic falsies and full red lips.

loved the curls the most! if only I woke up with such hair everyday, then I can truly say "I woke up like dis" haha. later on I dragged my mom out to go on a date with me to no black tie to catch Rozz's performance. traffic was smooth but jalan mesui was so packed parking was a nightmare.

my gorgeous date who was channeling Janet Jackson.

with Stan Calvin who was on drums that night - don't you just love that purple wig on him?

mom putting on red lipstick on Stan. I can't even.

I expected everyone that'll show up to be dressed in costume but no one did. I remember singing on halloween last year in Nerofico and I got complaints from customers for not dressing up (again, at that time, it never occurred to me) so I was really shocked that the turn out was..... as usual.

it was my first time catching Rozz live and we all really had an enjoyable time. he was professional, confident, and top to toe divalicious!

mom ordered fries and I had my favorite dessert in no black tie - kahlua tiramisu. slurp.

during the break I went out for some coverage and to my disbelief, jalan mesui was filled with people in costumes. like over-the-top-jaw-dropping ones. now that was a treat to see. I was so intrigued, it was like watching a runway show as they strut up and down the street, squeezing their much decorated selves between cars hailed by traffic in a fleeting manner. Judging by their group-to-group movement, I would assume they were bar hopping. a few familiar faces walked into NBT and I said my hellos and how are yous then we went back inside for the second set.

my very cute dad who surprised us with his presence hehehehe.

what impressed me the most with his show that night was his arrangement of medleys - transitions were smooth and melodious. also how he catches his keys so fast before singing. very, very cool.

and that was pretty much how I spent my first halloween. after the show ended we all stayed and mingled for a bit then left. this was also my first time taking out Sha's canon EOS1100D for a spin in no black tie, I was expecting very bad quality pictures but to my surprise, I really like them. there is still lots of room for improvement with my photos that's why I'm practicing with this before I invest in the canon G7X or sony RX100. really not interested in getting a DSLR cause as a musician I carry A LOT of things and already I feel like my neck is going to break. walking with tons of stuff in long dresses and stilettos ain't all that fun. my old canon who served me for 5 years has a lens malfunction and therefore it is now unusable. the repair price was ridiculously expensive. it wasn't even considered a splurge, it felt more of a con. I might as well top up a few bucks and get myself a new one so that is the plan. Sasha is sitting for her SPM now so I have this baby to test for a whole month woohoo.

till next time.
